[FIC] Batman - Batman/Joker - The Frayed Ends

Spam! Wrote this not long after TDK came out but never posted it. Since the evil twin just wrote Joker/Scarecrow with similar elements, I knew I had to post it as the same time as hers or I'd never do it. Team Porn does Arkham. Arharhrh.

The Frayed Ends

[ART] Steve & Tony Warmup Drawing

Just a little something to get me in the groove for doing homework. Done without access to my usual brushes so there are several big things that make me go DDDD:, but I didn't want to spend more than an hour on this. Warmup means warmup, Pondy.

Got the new fridge today! Yay! I always thought we had a big fridge, in fact, I thought the new one would be slightly smaller, though taller. Nope. The new one is HUGE. So much bigger it's amazing! Wow! The freezer looks bare and the fridge almost empty. Wow! And it's Energy Star. Says it'll cost approximately 41$ a year to run. YAY!!!

I bought the awesomest fleece sheets ever. They are warm and snuggy and make me all warm and cuddly. Hee! I think I'll buy a 2nd set!

Bought, of all things a mortar and pestle yesterday. I needed it for soup. The smell of frying onions in toasted, ground cardamon is amazing. And I hate onions....

I lost my Sims 3 Nisshi and Shinjiro. I got a program to recover deleted files, but so far I still can't find them. Poopie. I worked hard and they looked good. Will try again when I get home.

Ack! THAT song is on!!

Things what I have been doing

Attended a benefit dinner last night with J, maiki, and Susan for a non-profit that we've done a lot of work for. Materials that both Susan and I had designed were all over the place and it was really nice to see it all out and looking snazzy. Susan's done a lot to get their informational materials/reports looking clean and professional. I did the benefit's programs, invites, and carried over from last year was a set of promotional posters which I'm still proud of. The project, per usual, made me gnash my teeth at times, but I do enjoy working for them, and it was flattering when people whom I didn't expect compliments from told me they were impressed by the invitations in particular. :D Leading up I had this worry about the pagination on the program booklet since I worked entirely remotely and never saw a proof (or even had time to run one myself!) but everything turned out beautifully and typo-free. By this point, I've done enough recent work to have a solid design portfolio again, so with so few classes left ahead of me it's nice to have that in addition to what's shaping up to go on my reel.

I didn't mingle much, as J and I were introduced to some great people early on and there was no incentive to bother straying away from the interesting conversation to rub elbows with people outside my industry. It was somewhat fascinating attending something like this after so long, and also after now having worked on catering from the serving end! The appetizers, by the way, were awesome. I wish we offered some of them on our own menu, especially the warm cranberries and almonds in phyllo cups. Yum.

My shoes were remarkably comfortable. I haven't worn actual heels in forever and it's nice to confirm that my knee can handle hours standing around in 3" heels.

Yay crock pots! I have my new 6QT crock currently cooking chicken broth and my 4QT cooking, of all things, cereal. Multigrain cereal with millet, wheat berries, rice and apples. Dates go in to that one at the end and you can add nuts. I bought walnuts and pecan pieces at the bulk barn yesterday. Along with: millet, wheat berries, steel cut oats, 7 grain flour, oat flour, brown rice, 1L plain rice milk, 1L vanilla rice milk, star anise, basil, orange peel, dates, dried cherries and a blue raspberry tootsie pop XD.

The 6QT, though, I bought an entire 2 pound chicken, pulled the skin off, and stuck it in the corner of the crock, added 3 big carrots, a half onion, a green pepper, and 8 stalks of celery with Italian spice and at least 10 cups of water. I love big crock. I’m going to make soup with the stock, turkey corn chowder, though it’ll probably be made with chicken instead XD

Fridge day after tomorrow. Squee! Is very exciting. I was trying to get Saturday off, and had a trade in the system to give my Saturday for a Friday. Good thing I remembered to take it out of the system. Today….

Vacation. Starts. Saturday. Night. Yay!

Sirius Canada finally has a iPod app for streaming radio. Unfortunately, the Christmas channel I want is not included. Must remember to switch the radio to Sirius channel 3 for the Holly Days. *snerk* But the program does work.

the day

Made lentil soup (or rather stew) this evening and ate too much. (I LOVE lentil soup!) Sometime I'm gonna learn (...not).

One of our managing directors died suddenly last night. When my boss called us all in to inform us he was really shaken. At some point he couldn't speak anymore because he had to stiffle his tears. I've never seen him so emotionally before. He likes to present himself as confident, sharp, witty. With my recent troubles I tend to see him more calculating and not always I can trust. That just shows how multi-layered people really are.
I think I sound rather cold here. But I never met the deceased. So I feel sad for his family, but I'm not really affected. So it's permissable, I guess.

I AM EXCITED

Unfortunately, I didn't get any NaNoWriMo writing done yesterday. This is what happens! I'll have to write double as much today! I WAS SUPPOSE TO HIT 50K, DAMN IT.

The Archive of Our Own is in Open Beta! Learn more about it here. I'm Nan over there but I've yet to upload anything. I am keeping standards here, which means that I'm only uploading crap I'm actually proud of. There, uh, there really isn't that much that I like! D: I must fix this!

There was something else I wanted to talk about but, uh. Memory, memory.

The wait is driving me crazy!

I started at #95 in queue, am now at #65. *hits refresh again. And again ....*

Anyone have an invite code they don't need? XD

This is yet another reason why I love Dreamwidth's Latest page -- I didn't know this had gone live until I saw everyone talking about it there!

I'm windows 7-ified!

So, this is how it went down. Got home from work last night, plugged the disk in and it said I needed service pack 1. @#%$. I had to install my dlink and free download manager to get it. 750 MB, and an hour to install. At 1 am, I plugged in Win7, went through the first few steps, and went to bed. Harder to sleep with the PC on, plus I was excited cause of the upgrade and day off and all. And occasionally the PC rebooted with a BEEP!. Yikes. But it's on. Yippee!

Now I go to Ruka's PC and find out - sigh - she didn't have service pack 1. I pulled the install file from my compy and is now installing. I was going to leave about now, but I have to wait. It's gonna take a few hours to install win7 on her PC, cause I'm not upgrading from scratch, and the system will backup all files. I backed up, too, just in case.

I just used a system called Ninite to install some programs. It's pretty neat. You choose what programs you want, download a 200K exe file and it does the download, install for you, saying no to toolbars. Is cool. It gets the newest of everything, too. Install is easy, too, cause no extra clicky. Does everything for you. Neat-o.

My house is infested with rice

That's not a typo.

I came up for my lunch break to find rice all over the kitchen counter, the floor, etc. There was also one of the three-pound hand weights that I use for my exercises sitting on the counter. From the banging I'd heard while I was still downstairs, I figured my wife had been trying to break up the frozen chunk of rice with the weight (I was right) and she'd run out of time so couldn't clean up (the broom was there, so her heart was in the right place.) Between the rice (which has even made its way up the stairs) and the dishes in the sink (dried pancake batter needs sandblasting), it was a mess, but also kind of amusing.

I'm only half-awake tonight. I woke up at six this morning and my brain decided to be evil and start thinking about our leaky basement and leaky deck and how I seem to be cursed where this is concerned. Worrying about this all the time is gonna kill me, especially if I keep losing sleep.

I hate kids. I especially hate those three little bitches that bang on our door late at night and then run away (I know exactly who they are, too.) I'm nervous enough being alone at night while my wife is working, I fucking don't need to be afraid to walk around my main floor in case they bang on the door and I go through the ceiling. (*EDIT* How charming, they seem to have put some kind of netting over our outside doorknob. I've ignored them so far, but the first time they do any damage, I'm calling the cops.)

I have to work tomorrow. Working Saturdays sucks in general, just on principle, but it sucks more this time as it's my wife's first weekend off in weeks and of course now I'M working. Crappy timing. Last week's cool Shinkenger episode is subbed and we can't watch it until tomorrow night, auugh. Thank goodness there's only one more week until vacation.

Last night's Survivor episode was amazing.

Ok, Vista (the evil thing) is re-installed correctly. I have uninstalled the bloatware (and left for work 6 minutes late cause of it). I went to work. Deflation occurs. Phoooooo….. wooooork. I WANT to be installing Win7 right now. Down to bare bones, newly

Love this quote about the new movie 2012: Roger Ebert of the Chicago Sun-Times. " '2012' delivers what it promises, and since no sentient being will buy a ticket expecting anything else, it will be, for its audiences, one of the most satisfactory films of the year," he wrote. "It even has real actors in it. Like all the best disaster movies, it's funniest at its most hysterical. You think you've seen end-of-the-world movies? This one ends the world, stomps on it, grinds it up and spits it out." Wanna see moooooovie.

@#$!%&%

I had plans today. I was going to wipe the Win7 partition (done), and reinstall Vista from scratch (in process). I started at 10:30. Is now 1pm, and it's only just getting started. The recovery didn't start like it was supposed to, so I had to create recovery disks, a process of about 25 minutes a disk, 3 disks. And this was after finding out how to do it. Thank heavens I did not delete the Acer eRecovery program or I'd be screwed.
After all the first stuff, which should only have taken about 45 minutes, I was going to go shopping. That'll have to wait until tomorrow. I was going shopping tomorrow anyhoo, so not too big a deal.

I am getting the fridge tomorrow! Yay! Of course, it'll have to be delivered, but new fridge! I was going to get one Thursday. I was originally getting the 500$ sale one, but had decided on a 675$ one cause of the Energy Star Compliency. But I checked the new flyer before we went out and on Saturday, that same fridge goes down to 620$. Yay!
plus I'm getting mom a garment steamer and dad a cast iron pan for frittatas. Dad is so esoteric. But at least I know what to get him. I wanted to check costco today, just in case I could get the steamer cheaper. The major one is on sale for 80$ from 120$, but you never know.... Costco gets good stuff sometimes.
I'm also thinking of getting a new dressy shirt. We have to go for dumb portraits (mom's idea....) and I want to see if I can get something at Laura's, but cheap. Also want to look at their winter coats in case they've come down.

Went and checked on PC, good thing, it wanted disk 2.

Went to Staples to get Win7 and a usb to dc adapter. The adapter is for the ipod, as right now only plugging to the PC can charge. They're 35$, but I think worth it. The staples we went to didn't have the 'official' white ones, but had a black one on sale for only 15$. Lucky! Bought 2, and they work, so Ruka and I both have one.

Hm. Forgot it's Friday the 13th. Usually I have more luck than this. Maybe I did, I suppose the PC may have been unrecoverable....

Preparation ....

~ We're expecting leftovers from Hurricane Ida on Sunday, mostly in terms of a dumpload of rain (NOOOOO!), so since we don't yet have our rain re-direct plasticky-wavy board (wish I could remember the name for this thing), I did the only thing I could and put a tarp on the new deck in the area where the rain was dripping in last time. I collected rocks and put them on the tarp to hold it down (last time we nailed it, but I don't want to do that on the new deck.) Now that we've finally examined it, we can see the boards aren't as close together as they should be up near the problem area. Le sigh. And we still have the old deck laying in our backyard.

~ My poor wife didn't get home until almost midnight last night. The late shift sucks.

~ Loving Spongebob is not without its hazards. They played the damned Barbie jingle three times in the same commercial break and it's really irritating.

~ Have become disillusioned with the comment_fic comm on LJ. It's just the same fandoms all the time, and I'm tired of using whatever 'author's choice' ones pop up in desperation. Ah well, I never felt that good about supporting an LJ comm, anyway.

~ Getting hungry. The pepper steak last night was good; shall have more of that.

ipa = love

Worked a bit on my Logan/Daken pic. Note to self: please explore range of facial expressions beyond grumpy or snarling. In the middle of said drawing, I may have chugged a Butte Creek IPA, which, if anyone knows my alcohol tolerance means that I have a very slight buzz. Still not as good as a Speakeasy Big Daddy, but yum regardless.

IJ's [info]porn_battle is over and I miss it already. There was a Kadaj/Roy Mustang prompt that seemed terribly shiny until I actually tried writing it and ended up with something that felt like a thinly veiled Envy/Roy. Oops. Eked out a Victor/Logan though, which was nice. Shall get the lot cleaned up and properly posted on my site when I am not slightly tipsy.

Happy to report that I feel caught up on my schoolwork again, in no small part because I got a ton and a half done on my creature modeling today in class. I also managed to resubmit my Yuletide to fix up my offered fandoms and add a couple more. Tomorrow I'll probably write up my Santa letter, although I seem to say mostly the same thing each year. Gwee. Yuletide, it's like the best part of the holiday season next to leftover turkey.

Although I'm not drawing a ton, I find myself missing not having a place to art dump. I realised that with DW's shiny new subscription filters that I could just set up a tag that people can avoid if they want and then I don't have to worry about feeling like I'm spamming everyone with doodles and WIP things. So, fair warning, if you follow me on DW and don't want to see sketches and junk and wip things, you might want to tweak your subscription settings to avoid the art:unfinished tag that I'll be using. I won't be crossposting art dumps to IJ or to my site.
