Regrets (X-Men: Evolution)

Author’s Note: The following was an experiment of mine to see what I could write in just fifteen minutes, so if it’s short and unpolished, it’s because I didn’t go back and add or change anything after time was up.

Regrets (X-Men: Evolution)

Kurt sighed as he looked out over the bay from his balcony railing. He felt sick inside, and his tail swishing back and forth made his sore bottom even worse.

Half an hour earlier, he’d been face-down over Logan’s knee, getting spanked for breaking one of the cardinal rules of the Xavier Institute. He winced, remembering how he’d cried, kicked and squirmed during the punishment. He couldn’t even take it with any kind of dignity, and was ashamed of himself. And not just for that – not even close.

“Elf?”

Kurt looked over his shoulder and saw Logan in the doorway. “Ja?” he replied quietly, feeling his face heat up.

Logan walked over and leaned his arms on the railing, not looking at Kurt. “Feel like talking yet?”

Kurt was silent for a few moments and Logan sighed. “Guess not,” he said and began to turn away.

“Wait!” Kurt touched his shoulder. Logan looked at him and saw the teenager had tears in his eyes.

“Aw, come here.” Logan opened his arms and Kurt launched himself into them, clinging to the man as fresh tears started.

“I’m so sorry, Logan!” he cried.

Logan stroked his hair. “I know.”

“I’m sorry for running a Danger Room sequence alone.”

“I know.”

“I’m sorry for lying about it.”

“I know.”

Kurt buried his face in Logan’s shoulder and murmured between sobs. “And I’m REALLY sorry for saying I hated you. I didn’t mean it!”

Logan smiled and kissed the boy’s forehead. “I know,” he assured him. He rubbed his hair affectionately. “Remember that when I’m running you through the private training sessions you and I will have every day this week.”

Kurt smiled resignedly. “I’ll try.”
