Day of Doubt (Prince of Tennis)
By Haruka (haruka@ymail.com)

Kamio felt like that fish in Finding Nemo that kept singing 'Just keep swimming' over and over to herself, only in his case it was 'Just keep smiling.' This was Tachibana's graduation, after all. It was a big deal for their captain.
Former captain.
Once again that punch-to-the-gut feeling hit him and he reeled inside. No more Tachibana watching over their team, guiding them, protecting them. No more beacon of leadership to shine in the forefront of Fudomine, a warning to all those who would treat others unjustly.
The burden was all on him now, as the new captain. He would never be able to fill Kippei's shoes, not even close. His hands on his knees began to tremble.
Then another hand laid itself over his and squeezed.
"We'll be fine, Akira," Shinji reassured him quietly, not taking his eyes off the stage. "You're the right man for the job, and we all know it."
Kamio relaxed and squeezed his teammate's hand back. When he turned back to watch Tachibana step up to the podium to give his speech as valedictorian, his smile was genuine.
