Meme: Unpopular opinions!

Stolen from [info]bewize and [info]milleniumrex because they have the best toys. :)

Name a fandom, and I'll give you the scoop on at least three of my unpopular opinions related to that fandom.

Bring it! >:D

Sounds interesting! Ok, hmm.... how about Loveless?
1. I can't buy in to the fandom-love of Soubi and Ritsuka as a sexual couple. I'm okay with adults and teens together to a point, but twelve and adult? No. I'm fine with their canon master/slave relationship, but I think a lot of fanfics have them another way.

2. I know Ritsuka is the main character, but I don't like him that much and can't see why all the other characters do. He so cranky, moody, and angsty all the time - do people really like being around that sort?

3. I hate that characters with the potential to be so interesting are virtually ignored, like Kio and Yayoi.

4. I refuse to believe the popular undercurrent that Yuiko is Ritsuka's true Fighter. Blah, yuck, and ugh.
1.) I can definitely see what you're saying here. I remember when I first watched Loveless, and I was like, "Ritsuka is in elementary school, and Soubi is in college...Wha?!" To me though, having Ritsuka and Soubi's relationship take a sexual turn makes the most sense, given that a Fighter and Sacrifice always seek to deepen their bond. I always imagined having Ritsuka grow up first though before they have a sexual relationship.

2.) Really??!! I love Ritsuka! Though he is very cranky, I like to think that the other characters are able to see through that and see that Ritsuka doesn't really mean offense. Ritsuka is an insecure and burdened individual who is not used to others caring for him except Seimei, so his social skills are a bit lacking. However, Ritsuka is also very determined and honest, and as he feels more secure with Soubi's bond to him, he is given a safe place to grow as he tries to discover what is important and right while staying true to those things.

3.) I AGREE!!! I have fallen in love with many side characters in other anime, and it's always frustrating when they don't appear and develop nearly as much as they should.

4.) I also agree. I don't know why so many people like to think this. I just can't picture that in my head. I actually have a short segment where the voice actors of Loveless talk about the show, and they ponder the possibility of Yuiko and Ritsuka being paired together but rejected it. Have you seen it? It's quite interesting to see the actors' view on the show, so I can send it to you if you'd like.
1. AGREED SO HARD. Although, maybe in about ten years...

2. I think people want to protect Ritsuka. He's been through a lot. And his mother is crazy and his brother is psychotic and the only person on his side is a very broken 19 year old who hits on children. He needs all the help he can get!

3. Kio! I would love to see more of him in the series.

4. REALLY?! O.o I had no idea...
I'm stuck between asking for your opinions on Prince of Tennis and Samurai Sentai Shinkenger.
I'll try to do both, then. :)
Really? Thank you!

Shinkenger

1. It puts me in stabby mode when I hear some people saying that Aiba Hiroki is overacting in the role of Ryunosuke. The character is SUPPOSED to be an over-the-top Kabuki actor - how else do they expect that to be portrayed?! Not to mention that Hiroki didn't make up this character himself; he has a director and a script telling him what to do! Frankly, I think he's an acting genius to be pulling this off without cracking himself up!

2. I'm probably the only person besides my wife who ISN'T thrilled about the Shinkenger/Decade crossover episodes. I couldn't care less about the Decade characters and don't want them taking precious time away from my Shinkengers.

3. I've heard complaints that there is sometimes careless camerawork on the show (being able to see the cameramen reflected in the helmets, etc.) I never noticed it, don't go out of my way to find fault, and would appreciate not having my attention drawn to it, okay? X(

Re: Shinkenger

1. I totally agree with that. Seriously, Hiroki didn't write the freaking script! He's just doing what the director told him to do!

2. I'm not the excited about them either. I mean, Decade just doesn't draw me in like other Kamen Rider series did. I really preferred Den-O and Kiva.

3. I never noticed that before. Great. Now I have to concentrate on not trying to see that now that I know people have seen it. Ugh.

Prince of Tennis

1. Rabid shipping drives me crazy. I try to be open-minded about these things, but when people go overboard, it starts to make me HATE the pairing that they're blathering about. And for their information, Tezuka/Fuji isn't canon (realistically, pretty much 95% of these pairings aren't canon, and that's being generous.) It's all personal preference, gah!

2. I don't like the Nationals arc. I don't know if it's partly because the episodes are so spread out that it hasn't held my interest, but I really don't find them interesting.

3. It's hard to express my absolute hatred for the pairing nicknames everyone else seems to love. They're confusing, inaccurate, and downright embarrassing for the fandom. 'Pillar pair' 'Dirty pair' 'Who-the-fuck-CARES pair'. I avoid any stories/artwork that has these nicknames in the header. That also goes for the abbreviated nicknames like 'TezuFu' or 'KevRyo' or whatever inane combos they can come up with -- *RAGE* Just spell out the damned names so we know who the hell you're talking about and stop trying to be cutesy -- IT'S NOT CUTE! X(

Re: Prince of Tennis

1. I understand what you mean about rabid shipping. Seriously, I can understand that people prefer some pairings over others, but I hate it when people are all "OMG! You didn't pair so-and-so with so-and-so! How could you?!"

2. I enjoyed the Nationals Arc, but the waiting in between episodes was really annoying. There were some episodes that I wasn't crazy about though.

3. I can go either way with the pairing names. I know them and can figure out abbreviations, but I do prefer just spelling out the names too. I'll admit that some pairing names just don't make sense either.

Re: Prince of Tennis

1. Very true. I know that I myself am very biased about certain pairings, but it's crazy when people start claiming that these pairs are actually canon...

2. The Nationals arc is okay. It was pretty annoying when all the episodes were spread out, but I liked this arc mainly becuase the characters involved were some of my favorites or the new ones were very interesting (Hyotei, Shitenhouji, Rikkaidai). In terms of plot, it was kind of a let down.

3. My only issue with these pairing nicknames is that a lot of the times I can't even tell who they're talking about, which gets pretty confusing and frustrating. A lot of the nicknames are so random that I can't make the connection between the name and pairing at all.
X-men: Evolution, please. :)
Sure. :) I only just saw this on site because, again, my email doesn't seem to be working (unless I've finally become a victim of comment rot, but it's never happened to me before.) I didn't get the notification for the one below this, either. -_-;
1. The first season was my favorite. I hated when the series took the darker turn toward all the usual 'humans find out about mutants and make their lives miserable' stuff. Hasn't that been done to death? Couldn't they just have been left alone to train their powers and deal with normal teenage problems?

2. I was not a fan of the 'new mutants' when they were introduced, especially Tabitha and Bobby (sorry! -_-;) We killed Tabitha off several times over in a Sims game, we despised her so much. I've warmed up to them more in recent years, but Bobby was saved by virtue of his movie version, not the Evo one.

3. There were a couple of episodes where the artwork was so horrible it was barely watchable, but God help you if you mentioned it on a forum.

4. I didn't like the Apocolypse arc, either (you're probably wondering what's left that I DID like, and the answer is most of the characters, not what they put them through.)
Yu Yu Hakusho!!
I'll give it a go even though I haven't touched the fandom in YEARS, so I'm no longer up on what opinions are popular or not. XD
As I said, I don't know what fandom opinion is anymore, and I don't remember much in general and I never saw most of it subbed, so I'll just give my own opinion on what I DO remember:

1. Hiei/Kurama forever!
2. I liked the characters more than what they were doing, which was usually confusing and/or boring (except for the fight scenes.)
3. The girls also bored me. All of them.
4. I didn't find that demon pairing very interesting (can't remember their names - Hisui? The green haired one and the black haired one.)
5. On the other hand, I LOVED Jin, ShiShiWakamaru and um ... the little ice-maker guy ....
6. My favorite episodes were the ones involving Karasu and Kurama's fight and the ones where Kurama was first introduced.
7. I never re-watched the entire series, just a few select episodes like those mentioned in #6.
8. The music CDs for the series were awesome, I still love them.
1. So very, very, VERY true.
2. I did focus on the character more as well.
3. I liked Genkai.
4. Do you mean Itsuki and the human Sensui?
5. "The little ice-maker guy" = Touya.
6. Same here. I love those episodes.
7. I actually have. ^_^;
8. I agree. I especially love Unbalanced Kisses and that one song they play in the background that happens when things are really sad.
1. EXCELLET CHOICE. They're one of my favorite pairings EVER! XD

2. Yea, one of the main reasons I loved Yu Yu Hakusho was simply for the characters. I also loved the fight scenes, and the plot was pretty good, though sometimes lacking in a couple places.

3. I only like Genkai as well. Botan is a bit annoying, and for some reason, I don't really like Keiko. Shizuru is boring. Yukina...is okay, I suppose; though, I have a hunch that the only reason I'm okay with her is that she's Hiei's twin.

4. Yea, this pairing didn't really interest me either.

5. Yea, these characters were fun, though I liked Touya the most.

6. Me too!!! Kurama = <3

7. Yea, the whole series is just too long to watch the whole thing over. I tend to only watch my favorite parts.

8. I never listened to these. :(
Fruits Basket!! Haha, I'm just having so much fun with this. It's really interesting to see everyone's opinions. :)
Sure, I'll do that one this weekend. :)
1. I HATE that Akito was made a girl. We had all these gorgeous guys kowtowing to another beautiful guy and then it turned out to be a girl. What a waste.

2. Every guy who hinted at being gay (Haru w/Yuki, Ayame w/Hatori, Ayame w/Shigure and vice-versa, Ritsu the crossdresser, Kureno w/'male' Akito, had all ended up being with girls by the end of it. Another big-time let-down.

3. I found the art style pretty awful in the last few books. I know the mangaka injured her hand so it may not have been her fault, but seriously, you couldn't tell any of the guys or girls apart anymore unless another character called them by name.
Gravitation!
I was considering asking about RhPlus and/or Princess Princess but then I remembered that these don't actually have an active fandom at all. whereas Gravitation has atleast something :)

annakas
Does it? I never got into the communities for it, so I don't know much about their viewpoints. I haven't seen the show for years; I'll try to refresh my memory, but answering this might take a couple of days, sorry!
