Trio Trials - Part 33 (Sailormoon)

NOTE: This is an alternate universe crossover story, so you can expect anything and everything from character ages being changed to men being mothers. Contains yaoi/yuri relationships. It stars the Amazon Trio from Sailormoon SS, but eventually has characters such as the Three Lights from Sailorstars, and others from Rurouni Kenshin, Yuu Yuu Hakushou, Fushigi Yuugi, Gundam Wing, Fruits Basket, etc. Not meant to be canon.

I began this fic in 1998 and stopped writing it for a long time at Part 32, then added a couple of extra chapters. I reserve the right to resume writing it again at any time. ;)

Trio Trials

Part 33

What a difference a week can make, Fish Eye thought as sat on the garden swing and swayed idly back and forth. And how quiet the house had become since the Quartet left. He almost missed them. Almost.

Only a couple of days after his discovery of Seiya’s secret, the Quartet’s parents had sent plane tickets so their daughters could meet them on their trip and continue it with them. It was unexpected for sure, but the girls were happy, and had left the next day.

Hawk Eye had tried repeatedly to apologize, but Fish Eye hadn’t been interested in listening. Tiger Eye was caught in the middle – feeling badly for Fishie, but not willing to give up Yaten just when they were starting to know each other. And of course, despite his apologies, Hawk Eye had no intention of cutting off his relationship with Taiki. So although he himself wasn’t sure he wanted anything to do with Seiya anymore, it looked like the Kou brothers would remain a part of his life.

However, Amara would not. The day after the dinner at the Tenous, which had gone as badly as Haruka feared, the neighborhood had been shocked to discover that Rogue and Remy had left town with the girl. Kunzite and Zoisite were furious and planned to hunt them down until Haruka found a sealed envelope in their mailbox. It was a letter for her from Amara, saying that she couldn’t deal with her biological parents becoming more involved in her life and had begged her guardians to take her away from there. It hadn’t been hard to do, she said, since they’d been afraid of losing her. But they were all worried that the Tenous might try to go after them, and so had left the other group home members where they were, to make it harder to track the three of them. Maria and Kanna were old enough to take over running the home. Amara promised to keep in touch with Haruka by email, and asked her to use any influence she had to convince their parents not to search for her. For now, Kunzite and Zoisite had reluctantly agreed. They hoped that in time, Amara might be willing to communicate with they as well, even if she never would agree to live with them.

Fish Eye knew he should probably be glad that Amara was gone, but it really didn’t make much difference. He and Seiya were a dead issue, anyway.

“Hi Fish Eye.”

He looked up to see his father approaching and managed a smile. “Hi Papa.”

Sano sat down next to him. “I thought you’d be feeling better by now. Do you want to talk about it?”

Fish Eye sighed. “There’s nothing new to tell you.”

“Do you think you would consider forgiving your brother? He misses you, and it’s hard on Tiger Eye being between you.”

“Sure, I’ll forgive him,” Fish Eye said tiredly. “He probably would have gotten around to telling me about the gender-changing, wouldn’t he?”

“Of course he would. You know you mean more to your brothers than any girl or boy they might date.”

“I guess so. They sure seem to spend a lot of time with them, though.”

“Well, you haven’t made yourself great company lately,” Sano pointed out.

Fish Eye nodded. “I guess I’ve been kind of stupid, huh? Letting myself get so upset over a guy I’ve dated all of one time.”

“He hasn’t gotten married over the past week, honey. If you’re still interested, you might be able to work things out.”

The blue-haired boy pouted. “I said I’d forgive Hawk Eye – I’m not so sure about Seiya.”

Sano rubbed his son’s head. “Too much pride or stubbornness can be a real hindrance in a relationship. I suppose you get it from both of us, but I hope you learn how to compromise sooner than we did.” He winked. “For a while, your mother and I were both so hung-up on protecting our individual pride that we weren’t sure we would get married at all.”

“Really?” Fish Eye asked in surprise.

“Yep,” his father nodded, “and if we hadn’t, YOU wouldn’t be here, so you see, there are definite advantages to knowing when to give a little and accept someone for who they are.”

Fish Eye grinned slyly. “So if I forgive Seiya, it’s okay for us to get married and have triplets?”

“Not in the near future, it isn’t!” Sano laughed. “And I wouldn’t joke about it, sweetheart. Considering the birth pattern in your family and in his, triplets might just be what you’d end up with!”

Fish Eye paled. “Eek, you’re right! Okay, we’ll postpone the baby stuff for a couple of years or ten.” He smiled. “But I guess I could at least talk to him.”

“That’s my boy.” Sano enveloped Fish Eye in a hug and kissed the top of his head. “But first and foremost, talk to Hawk Eye so that we can get rid of that wounded puppy look in his eyes, all right?”

Fish Eye giggled. “Okay, I’ll go find him right now. Thanks, Papa.”

Sano watched him head back toward the house with an affectionate smile.

Maria shook her head as she put the letter down. Kanna was afraid to ask, but had to.

“What did Rogue say?”

“That they have settled in a nice area and Amara seems happy. From the sounds of it, she must like being an only child. Lord knows she never had the chance here.” Maria sighed. “Rogue says she and Remy have complete confidence in me to run this place, but I am not so sure.”

Kanna put her big hands over the Russian girl’s shoulders and squeezed. “You’re MORE than capable, Maria. You used to command the entire Hanagumi – there should be nothing to taking care of a few teenagers!”

“Well,” Maria said slowly, “at least right now there are only the two boys left.”

The doorbell rang. “I’ll get it!” Kanna said, and loped into the foyer. She opened the door and cocked her head curiously. “May I help you?”

The teenage boy adjusted the bag on his shoulder and looked up at her from under orange bangs. “I’m Souma Kyo,” he said. “This the group home?”

“Kanna, who is it?” Maria entered the room and blinked, startled. “Are you looking for someone, young man?”

“The group home,” Kanna answered for him, then looked back to the boy. “Who told you about us?”

“A guy named LeBeau,” Kyo replied. “He arranged for me to move in here sooner, but I was delayed.” He glanced from one girl to the other, a slight frown forming on his handsome face. “So can I come in or what?”

Maria and Kanna exchanged a glance. “Of course,” the blonde woman said. “I am Maria Tachibana and this is Kirishima Kanna. Remy is no longer here, and we are in charge.”

Kyo eyed them warily and gave them a wide berth as he entered and put his bag down. “That’s okay, I guess. Did he tell you anything about me at all? You don’t look like you were expecting me.”

“We weren’t.” Maria studied him thoughtfully. He was attractive, with tanned skin off-setting the short orange locks, and deep red eyes. He wore a crop top that showed off his flat stomach and a pair of cargo pants. He wasn’t muscular, but moved easily, with more grace than she would credit other boys his age as having.

“You’re a martial artist, are you?” Kanna asked suddenly.

He perked up, grinning at her. “Yeah! You can tell?”

“I wasn’t sure, but you move like one,” Kanna said, then laughed. “Either that, or a ballet dancer.”

Kyo made a face. “Nah, I don’t dance. But you like martial arts?”

“I’m the 28th successor to the Kirishima style,” she replied proudly.

The boy nodded. “Cool enough. Maybe we can spar sometime? I’m gonna want to keep up in my practice.”

“Sure!”

Maria touched Kanna’s shoulder. “Before the two of you go off to beat each other’s brains in, perhaps we should show the young man to a room?”

“Hey, who was at the door?” came Duo’s cheerful voice as he bounded into the room with Inuyasha right behind him. The dog demon skidded to a stop, and his ears flattened against his hair as he sniffed the air and glared at Kyo.

“Cat!” he snarled.

Kyo recovered quickly from the shock of seeing him, then hissed back. “Dog!”

“Uh oh,” Kanna murmured while Maria facepalmed.

Hawk Eye changed the radio station, then changed it again. He couldn’t find any music that suited his mood, but then there didn’t seem to be a ‘All Misery, All the Time’ station. He sighed and clicked it off.

A knock came at his bedroom door. “Yeah?” he said without much interest.

“Hawk Eye, it’s me.”

The pink-haired teenager sat up. “Fish Eye? Come in.”

His brother opened the door and walked in, looking around. “What are you doing?”

Hawk Eye spread his arms. “Just what you see – nothing. What’s up?”

Fish Eye perched on the foot of the bed and met his gaze earnestly. “I just wanted to apologize. I’m sorry I haven’t been speaking to you.”

Hawk Eye’s handsome face broke out in a wide grin. “Really? Then you forgive me?”

“Yes. I know I haven’t been very nice to you lately, I was just so upset about Seiya and the fact that you knew ….” Fish Eye shrugged. “But what’s done is done. It doesn’t matter, anyway. It’s over with me and Seiya before it even got started.”

“Don’t say that, Fishie! He still likes you!”

Fish Eye raised an eyebrow. “You think so?”

“I _know_ so!” Hawk Eye said firmly. “Taiki says he’s been moping around ever since you threw the milkshake at him.”

“At HER, you mean,” Fish Eye corrected. “And I wouldn’t be so sure that the moping has anything to do with me. Amara just left, remember?”

Hawk Eye sighed and pushed a hand through his spiky hair. “Don’t you think Taiki knows the difference? They’re close, he and his brothers. They talk about stuff, like we do.”

“Maybe, but even we don’t tell each other everything or I’d have known about the gender-switching a lot sooner, hm?”

“Touché.” Hawk Eye looked at him. “I _am_ sorry I didn’t tell you.”

“It’s okay.” Fish Eye smiled a little. “It only matters that Seiya DIDN’T tell me.”

“Does that mean if he asks you out again, you won’t give him another chance?”

“Maybe I will,” Fish Eye admitted. “We’d have to talk first.”

“Sure,” Hawk Eye nodded slowly, “of course.”

“Well, anyway, I just wanted to square things between us. I’d better go help Mama with dinner before he calls me.” Fish Eye stood up and his brother followed him to the door.

“Thanks for telling me, Fishie. I’m glad we’re speaking again.”

Fish Eye grinned over his shoulder at him. “Me too. See you later.”

Hawk Eye gave him a wave and watched him head down the stairs. He made a dash for the nearest phone and dialed.
