Trio Trials - Part 30 (Sailormoon)

NOTE: This is an alternate universe crossover story, so you can expect anything and everything from character ages being changed to men being mothers. Contains yaoi/yuri relationships. It stars the Amazon Trio from Sailormoon SS, but eventually has characters such as the Three Lights from Sailorstars, and others from Rurouni Kenshin, Yuu Yuu Hakushou, Fushigi Yuugi, Gundam Wing, Fruits Basket, etc. Not meant to be canon.

I began this fic in 1998 and stopped writing it for a long time at Part 32, then added a couple of extra chapters. I reserve the right to resume writing it again at any time. ;)

Trio Trials

Part 30

Taiki closed the poetry book and smiled over at Hawk Eye sheepishly. "I hope you didn't mind my reading that to you - I read it last night and it made me think of Haruka's situation."

"It was a beautiful poem," Hawk Eye said. "But I'm not sure if it was supposed to make me feel happy or sad."

"Some of both maybe? I wasn't sure either," Taiki admitted with a laugh. He looked at Hawk Eye thoughtfully. "How is Haruka doing, anyway? It was a lot of emotional upheaval she's gone through lately."

"She's okay about Amara," Hawk Eye said. "She's not so okay about her parents. I don't think she'll ever forgive them for not believing her, and knowing they kept Amara's birth a secret doesn't help."

"Are her parents bugging Amara to move in yet?"

"Both she and Yui advised against rushing it, but who knows if they'll listen." Hawk Eye sighed. "Problem is that Amara didn't express any interest in getting to know them last night, so they're panicking."

"Amara strikes me as a girl who knows her own mind," Taiki said. "She and Haruka have that in common. And I also think that Amara won't forgive her parents until Haruka does."

Hawk Eye looked confused. "Forgive them for what? They didn't know she'd been abducted."

"I'm talking about what they did to Haruka," Taiki said. "Finding out that Haruka was punished unjustly really bothered her. I think she may even have been affected by it before they met."

"You mean some kind of psychic link?" Hawk Eye asked.

Taiki nodded. "Many twins have it, even those raised apart. And often, twins raised apart have _more_ in common than those who grew up together, because those who live together feel compelled to be different."

"Did you get to meet all the new people at the barbecue?" Hawk Eye inquired.

"Yes, I think most of us made a point of it. What did you think of them?"

"Duo's a good sport, considering what the Quartet did to him." He rolled his eyes. "Inuyasha is cool, I like him. Maybe because he's almost like a Changechild. Maria is very beautiful, but a little cold. Maybe that was just my impression. Kanna ...," he shook his head, "she's got a better build than me!"

"How about Amara?"

"She's Haruka's twin, how can I not like her?" Hawk Eye smiled. "She's going to be a fun addition to the crowd."

Taiki raised an eyebrow. "It's very diplomatic of you to say that, considering how Fish Eye must feel right now."

Hawk Eye sighed. "The way I see it, they only had one date. You can't say they're in any kind of committed relationship."

"Is he very upset?" Taiki asked.

"He's not happy about it, that's for sure. I just hope that if Seiya decides to keep seeing Amara, that he's upfront with Fishie about it."

"There are a few things he should be upfront with Fish Eye about," Taiki grumbled.

Hawk Eye looked surprised. "Is Seiya keeping something important from Fishie?"

"Yes," Taiki admitted. "But then, I'm keeping the same thing from you." He looked at Hawk Eye earnestly. "I'll tell you now. I just hope you don't hate me afterwards."

Hawk Eye watched as Taiki stood. The lavender-eyed redhead shimmered slightly, then ... changed. A moment later, a young woman stood where before had been a young man.

"T-Taiki?" Hawk Eye said uncertainly.

"Yes, I'm still me," Taiki said, in a voice slightly higher than she'd had before. "'Me' just happens to have a split gender. I can become one or the other."

"What ... what were you born as?"

"A girl," Taiki said. "We live mostly as boys now, although not exclusively. Life is easier and safer for boys." He searched Hawk Eye's expression. "Are you angry?"

"No, just surprised," he admitted. "I like girls and boys both, so this doesn't change anything." He smiled. "I'm glad you told me, though."

"I wish Seiya would tell Fish Eye." Taiki sat back down. "He can do it, too. And Yaten."

Hawk Eye gave a low whistle. "Yeah, this could cause problems. Fish Eye is definitely not into girls."

"I'll understand if you want to tell him," Taiki said.

"No," Hawk Eye answered. "I'll let Seiya do it - as long as he does it before the end of their next date."

--

Amara rang the doorbell and studied the flower box under the front window until Da Cider opened the door.

"Well, good morning, Haruka ... or Amara ...." He scratched his head and laughed. "You know, I can't tell you two apart."

"Neither can most people, I guess," she said. "I'm Amara. Is Seiya here?"

"She sure is - SEIYAAAA!" he yelled. "Get your butt down here! You've got a visitor!"

"Who is it?" Seiya called out.

"Amara!"

Seiya in female form came down the stairs wearing a pair of shorts and a halter top. "Hi Amara!" she greeted. "I had to check first - not everyone knows about me being female."

"That's okay, I'm glad you trusted me enough to tell me." Amara grinned. "Do you want to do something or did you have plans?"

"No plans, I'd love to go out. Papa, may we borrow your car?"

Da Cider pretended to consider it. "Only if you promise to clean up any signs of your make-out sessions."

Seiya hung her head while Amara laughed.

"He's like this _all_ the time," Seiya muttered under her breath. "Okay, Papa, you've got a deal." She accepted the car keys.

"Oh yeah, and don't do to it what your brothers did to your mother's car," he said with a shudder. "What a mess."

"No problem. Come on, Amara." Seiya went outside and Amara followed.

"Papa's car isn't as cool as Mama's, but it's better than nothing and Taiki's got the van." She unlocked the car and let Amara into it. They headed down the street.

--

Fish Eye had just finished crossing the road when he looked toward the car coming down the street. Seiya was behind the wheel! He raised his hand to wave, then froze at seeing Amara in the front seat beside him. Quickly, he darted behind a bush.

--

"I'm glad you wanted to come out," Amara said. "I need to talk to someone, I think."

"Doesn't surprise me," Seiya said frankly. "You've got a big decision to make, don't you?"

"I will before long," Amara agreed. "No one is pressing the issue yet, but I'm sure it'll happen." She blinked suddenly at the flash of blue that suddenly disappeared behind a bush as they drove by.

"What's wrong?" Seiya asked, turning her head to follow Amara's gaze.

"I thought I saw something." She twisted in her seat and saw Fish Eye slip out from behind the bush. She grinned when she realized the boy saw her looking back at him and flashed him a peace sign.

"Who was that?" Seiya asked, trying to squint into the rear view mirror.

"Fish Eye," Amara replied, turning to face front. "Did you want to pick him up?" she asked softly.

"No," Seiya replied with a sigh. "I can't let him see me like this, and besides, I was with you first."

"You two-timer, you," Amara teased. "I don't mind if you want to date us both, but I'm not sure he feels the same way."

Seiya wasn't, either, but if he had to place bets, he suspected Fish Eye wasn't the sharing kind.
