Unlikely Recipe (Delicious Gakuin)

Takasugi Rin put down the crystal chopsticks he had dubbed Twin Rainbow and regarded his latest food creation with admiration. It was beautiful, as everything he touched should be, and would surely earn him another passing grade. Something tickled his brow and he frowned, lifting a hand to his forehead and bringing his fingers back down to within his sight. Was that sweat? No, he decided firmly, such a vulgar thing could not exist on his perfect skin. Perspiration, maybe ….

“Rin!” Matthieu Perrier called out as he peered into the room. “Me did not think you would still be here.”

Rin was used to Matthieu’s odd speech pattern that came from having a French father and a Japanese mother and being fluent in five languages. “I just finished. I took my time with it, but it’s perfect.” Rin proudly showed him the fruit sculpture he’d created and Matthieu barely gave it a passing glance.

“Oui, tres bien,” he said absently, then caught Rin by the arm. “But that’s not important right now! It’s about Rouma and Shugo – Senpai says he saw them running off together and now he can’t find them!”

“Well, we know they didn’t leave campus,” Rin said dryly. The students at the Delicious Gakuin cooking school were virtual prisoners for the three years they were ‘invited’ to attend. The traps and barbed wire attested to that.

“Non, non,” Matthieu shook his head. “But they’re supposed to be working on their assignment for Monsieur Tokudaira’s class! If he comes to check up on them, there’ll be trouble!”

That was true enough, Rin knew. He carefully wiped his slender hands and touched Matthieu’s shoulder. “Don’t worry, we’ll find them.” He smiled, and Matthieu had to shield his eyes from the angelic light that surrounded his comrade.

“O-Oui,” he agreed. “Let’s go, ne?”

The two Freshmen hurried off in search of their friends, looking in every room they came across except for the teacher’s lounge – no way they wanted to tip those four tyrants off that anything might be amiss. They made a point of ducking anytime they came across one of the bull-head plaques on the walls, never being sure if the Principal could actually see them through the bull’s glowing eyes or whether it was strictly the pseudo-intercom he usually used it for.

“RIN! MATTHIEU!”

They turned at the sound of Nangou Ryuuji’s typically top-volume voice as he ran down the hall to pounce on them. “I FOUND THEM, COME WITH ME, YOU WON’T BELIEVE IT UNLESS YOU SEE IT!” He began dragging them both along, ignoring their pleas for mercy.

To the boys’ surprise, Ryuuji hauled them all the way to the Delicious Coliseum, where all the Delicious Bouts took place. The lights were out and all seemed quiet.

“Me wa impression is no one is here,” Matthieu observed, and Ryuuji slapped a hand over his mouth.

“Be _quiet_!” he hissed a warning, making Matthieu and Rin exchange a glance. Since when was Ryuuji himself ever quiet?

Their Senpai pulled them over to one of the counters and pointed behind it. Rin and Matthieu both leaned over it and looked down. Sitting on the floor behind the counter were Kitasaka Rouma and Katsuragi Shugo. They were whispering intimately, their fingers entwined. Every few moments they would share a brief, soft kiss, then smile at each other shyly.

The other three members of the Delicious 5 moved back until they were out of the room. Matthieu and Rin were in shock.

“Me had no idea that Rouma and Shugo were ….” Matthieu made a heart shape with his hands.

“Me either,” Rin admitted, then smiled to himself. “I approve, though, even though they’re complete opposites. Rouma needs Shugo to keep him down to earth and Shugo needs Rouma to loosen him up.” He nodded with satisfaction. “It’s a beautiful match.”

“And they need US to protect their love!” Ryuuji announced.

“That’s right!” Rin gasped suddenly. “The teachers would definitely interfere, maybe even move one of them out of our room!”

“Can you imagine what Kodou-sensei would say?” Matthieu asked, eyes wide with horror. “His little brother, from such a traditional family, involved with a … Qu’est ce que c’est? … ‘country bumpkin’ like Rouma?”

“We’ll watch out for them!” declared Ryuuji.

“We’ll be love senshi!” Rin agreed eagerly.

Not unaccustomed to impromptu praying, Matthieu clasped his hands together and closed his eyes. “Jesus, me wish to keep Rouma and Shugo safe from persécution and enable us to help them protect their important relationship from les professeurs.”

“AMEN!” Ryuuji bellowed. Rin and Matthieu quickly both grabbed one of their senpai’s arms and hurried him away from the scene.
